Pedi-Partials

Pedi-partials are custom-made teeth used to replace missing teeth in children. They are similar to removable adult dentures and designed to be temporary, replacing only the baby teeth in a child.

Pedi partials come in different sizes and shapes depending on your child’s needs and age. They are often the best option for kids with missing teeth who are between two and eight years of age. The replacement teeth are made from acrylic material made to look like natural teeth but held in place with some metal parts hidden within the mouth.

Benefits of Pedi-partials include:

  • Improved appearance
  • Self-confidence boost
  • Better eating abilities and nutrition
  • Decreased speech problems
  • Improved social interactions

Pediatric Partials are only designed to last a few years since the mouth will continue to grow and develop as your child does. Pedi-partials are designed to fit comfortably into a child’s mouth. Since they are removable, pedi-partials are best suited for older kids who can be responsible enough not to lose them.

Common foods to avoid eating with pedi-partials.

  • Bubble/chewing gum
  • Gummy bears
  • Tough pizza crusts
  • Popcorn
  • Pears
  • Apples
  • Lollipops and popsicles
  • Carmel
  • Jolly ranchers

Like with normal teeth, always remember to brush and clean the pediatric partials at least twice a day, if possible, after every meal. Pedi partials are best cleaned with a denture brush that has soft bristles and a specialized denture cleaning solution made specifically for artificial teeth.

Special attention must also be paid to the gums and surrounding teeth that hold up the pedi-partials. Food particles can get trapped between the gums and the partials which can cause disease and further problems. You may need to help your child to clean their teeth and gums after initially receiving pedi-partials.

Pediatric partials easily break, so it is important to avoid situations where they may be dropped. If they need to be cleaned outside your child’s mouth, use a bowl and a towel to wash and dry them carefully over the counter.

Do Pedi-Partials Hurt?

Your child may feel a little pressure during the procedure and fitting but we find that most quickly adapt to the pressure on their gums and forget all about their pedi-partial. Initially, brushing around them can cause some discomfort or bleeding while there is still swelling and inflammation while your child’s mouth is getting used to its new replacement teeth.

How Much Do Pediatric Partials Cost?

Most dental care plans cover up to 50% of the entire cost but be sure to check with your insurance company to see if your plan or coverage covers the procedure.
